Avete presente il ‘Sophistipop’? Per chi avesse qualche problema a fissarlo nel tempo vi diamo noi una spolverata. Si parla di primi/metà anni ’80, con un sound principalmente incentrato su elettronica e synth che però comprendeva anche forti influenze jazz e soul, senza dimenticare un piacevole e raffinato uso dei fiati. Tra i gruppi più famosi del genere abbiamo Roxy Music, Sade, The Style Council, Swing Out Sister, Prefab Sprout e le prime cose degli Everything but the Girl. Insomma nomi non certo di poco conto.
Il sito ‘Fadeawayradiate.com‘ ha curato una deliziosa compilation, che si può trovare in veste gratuita su Bandcamp, in cui 12 gruppi hanno realizzato altrettante cover di eroi del genere (o vicini allo stesso) e vi possiamo assicurare che la selezione è stata davvero ben eseguita, così come tutte le cover.
La compilation si chiama “I Remember That”‹!”‹: 12 sophistipop tunes quoted out of context” e i gruppi presenti (che hanno registrato il brano apposta per la compilation!) li trovate sia nell’immagine sovrastante sia nella tracklist che trovate di seguito, insieme ai nomi dei gruppi coverizzati. Un consiglio, anche non foste particolarmente amanti del genere, beh, date un ascolto, perchè i brani (così come le band coverizzate) sono di assoluto pregio!
